Captain Benny, Ahoy!

Welcome aboard the good ship Benny! This little pup was stranded at the shelter and wanted nothing more than a forever home. Along came PPR, foster mom Miranda, and then new forever mom Connie! Lucky Benny not only got his forever home but is surrounded by a loving crew of ship mates! While Benny might have taken over as captain of the ship in this awesome family.  he readily  shares the helm with pup brother and first mate Bonbon. Wow, we never knew Benny was a little yachtsman, but he apparently navigated his way right into the hearts of his new family!!

Levi and Wrangler Start Over

June 13:  Levi had his surgery with the specialist and all indications are it was a huge success.  Levi is recovering with his awesome foster mom Heather.

June 1: Levi and Wrangler had their surgeries and had their teeth cleaned.  Many of their teeth were extracted and gum surgery was performed to close the empty sockets left by the rotting teeth.  The hole in Levi's mouth extends into the sinus cavity and is very large.  We will schedule him to see a specialist in 2 weeks after he heals from his dental.

May 30: Levi and Wrangler are safe now.  They were found locked in a storage unit.  Yes.....a storage unit.  They were taken to animal control where the good people there spent 10 days caring for them and trying to find them a home. These boys are a mess and their teeth are horrid.  Levi is struggling with hole in his mouth that extends into his nasal cavity.  Animal control made Levi comfortable with pain medication so he didn't suffer.  When they weren't adopted and their time was expiring, Poodle and Pooch rescued them.

Levi and Wrangler will spend the next 3 days at East Orlando Animal Hospital.  Today the groomers will work their magic on these two matted, stinky boys today.  Tomorrow Dr. Benson will provide all the care they need including their surgeries.  During Levi's surgery Dr. Benson will evaluate the hole in his mouth to determine the next course of action.  Both of these Whoodles (Wheaten Terrier/Poodles) will be feeling very good in just a few days.  We can already see a change in their personalities.  They know they are in good, caring hands now and they trust us.

If you can help us afford their care, please donate any amount below.  We rescued them, but it's your donations that make them well.  Thank you.

~ ~ ~Luna's Landing~ ~ ~

Remember Luna-- the little girl with the apple-sized hernia?  Luna was perfect after Dr. Zern performed surgery. But a few weeks later she had a seizure.  Not a big deal as far as Luna's health goes but it made her a "special needs" dog so finding her a home would be tougher.  After the first two interested adopters backed out, Cheryl and her big rescued mutt Chip decided to adopt Luna.

Cheryl fell in love with Luna’s photo and applied to adopt her.  She didn't care that Luna wasn't perfect, only that she needed someone to love and love her back.  Cheryl says: "Luna has settled into her Maitland home and become a celebrity.  She's a star!  I can’t imagine having missed this chance just because of a seizure episode.  It’s no hardship at all to give Luna a small pill inside a treat twice a day. The “happy dance” she performs is ample reward for my small effort.  She is the perfect fit for Chip and I.  My message for prospective adopters – Don’t be scared off by a dog with medical needs. Chances are you aren’t in perfect health yourself, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have lots of love and life in you. The same is true for dogs. Take a chance. You will be rewarded with loyalty and adoration beyond measure. And who couldn’t use more of both in their life?”

Welcome to Poodle and Pooch Rescue!

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that rescues dogs that truly need help.  All donations are tax-deductible.  We have many older, special needs dogs because these are the dogs that need us.  Other rescue groups scoop up the young, highly adoptable dogs from animal control.  We rescue the "leftovers" -- the ones they don't want because the dog is older or isn't perfect due to a medical condition.   These are the dogs we save, so their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life.  We provide the veterinary care they need and a foster family they love.  When they're ready, we match them with a special family who cherishes them for the rest of their lives.  We are all volunteers, nobody is paid.

Dirty Breeder Secrets... Shhhhhh..

The public sees cute little puppies at a pet store or that a breeder is selling on a website, the newspaper, Craigs list or on the side of the road. They don't see the filthy cages, loneliness and suffering the parents of those puppies endure for years. If the public was aware, nobody would buy from them.  Please help us educate the public -- when they buy from a pet store or breeder, they perpetuate the cruelty.

Monika, our Georgia rescue partner, rescued these three from one of these breeders after years of abuse.  They lived in a chicken wire cage that could be hosed out with the dog still in it, above the ground so the dogs' feet never touched a solid surface. Monika saved these dogs and got them to PPR.  Tobie, Lamsie and Diva are now listed on our adoptable dogs page and ready for a home.

Tobie's before and after photos tell his story.

Lamsie, the white Poodle, fell out of her above ground cage, hit the pavement below and broke her jaw.  The breeder did nothing but put her back in her cage.  The bone was crushed and her body absorbed the fragments over time. Diva, the Maltese, was terrified but once she trusts you, she bonds closely.  Luckily Monika rescued her while she was still young.

When you donate to PPR, your funds go 100% to help dogs like these.  We are all volunteers, so nobody is paid.  The dogs are kept in our homes so none of your donation is used to maintain a building.  All of your funds go directly to veterinary costs, food and grooming costs.  Thank you for helping us continue our work.  Your donation is a gift of LIFE.

Just Hangin' Out with Jack

Some dogs are silly, some are stubborn, and others are just chilled out lazybones. Now meet Jack, who is a little bit of all of these, but with a big dose of lovable thrown in. Jack is as easy going as a dog can be. He is perfectly happy to spend the day hanging out with his favorite person, in fact he'll even take you on a little stroll if you're up for it. You can take him with you to the coffee shop where he promises to sit nicely & let you read your paper or do silly things on your laptop. Whatever you want to do, well, that's pretty much what Jack wants to do too. Give him a chew bone, a soft bed (yours preferably), a little security and he'll be your best friend forever. Hey, a trustworthy good buddy is hard to find but choose Jack as yours, and you have a friend for life. Visit Jack and his pup pals on the Adoptable Dogs page of this website!

Susie Q is Looking for Her Angel

I'm Susie Q. Animal services begged PPR to take me because they all fell in love with me.  I had huge bladderstones and my eyes hurt.  PPR removed my bladderstones and my eyes feel great now!   But I need a rescue hero to adopt me--someone who really wants to save a dog.  I have to eat a special type of food that you have to buy at the vet's office so I don't get anymore bladderstones.  I have a dry eye condition so I'll need eye drops twice a day and I need two pills a day too.  But wait, don't stop reading!  Let me tell you the good stuff!  I don't mind taking my pills or my eye drops at all!!  I love my new life and I will love you too!  I will be your constant companion and live for you just like I do my foster mom!  I walk like a lady on my leash and have great manners.  I like other dogs and even cats!  I promise to make you laugh at least once a day because I'm so happy!   If you can give me my food, drops and pills, I will give you so much in return.  Visit me on the Adoptable Dogs page and please apply to adopt me.

Please Help Me Feel Better...

Max needs some help.  Max was once loved by his mom who died. Max's story after that becomes too sickening to tell.  PPR stepped in and rescued Max 2 years ago.  Karen, his foster mom, has been in love with him ever since.  Because of his condition, we made Max a PPR Permanent Resident, to live with his foster mom Karen for the rest of his life.  Max was given a terrible prognosis, but nobody told him!  He's been thriving in Karen's care for the past two years and has bonded strongly to her.  Max's biggest issue has been his eyes.  Our vets have been keeping Max feeling good but now it's time to remove his right eye.  Max is blind so he won't care--in fact he will feel so much better when this eye is gone because it's become very uncomfortable for him.  Max is a healthy, happy senior who has had the best two years of his life and we want to give him at least a few more to spend with his loving foster mom!  Please help us make Max feel better with a small donation.  We'll send you photos and updates of his progress.  Thank you.

This was Max after a few months in our care.  He was in such poor shape, but he's a beautiful boy now!

You Can Help

You can help by adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating so we can save more dogs.

To adopt, please fill out the Adoption Application and we'll call you to help find the right match for your family.

To foster, please also fill out the Adoption Application but write in that you'd like to foster.  We ask for a 2-3 week commitment.  You can also call or email us so we can answer your questions.  Our foster moms and dads are our heroes!

To volunteer, email us and let us know what you'd like to do.  We need transporters within Orlando and outside of Orlando.   We need photographers (professional or non professional) that can drive to foster homes and take photos of dogs for the website.  We also need people that can sew.
